Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a great honour and a privilege to welcome you all to this reception held on the occasion of the 90th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Turkey.
Allow me to express my deepest gratitude and highest appreciation to His Excellency Mr. Jiri Rusnok, Prime Minster of the Czech Republic for honouring us with his presence on this occasion.
We, in Turkey, regard the Czech Republic among our true friends and a valued and reliable partner and ally.
We enjoy excellent political relations with the Czech Republic as exemplified in the frequency of high level visits between our countries, the last one being the visit of His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey to Prague last February. We are allies in NATO and partners in the EU and numerous other European institutions. We share and defend the same universal values and principles. The Czech Republic as a prominent member of the European family, and Turkey as a major player in its region both strive for peace, prosperity and well-being at the regional and global scale.
I would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for the Czech Republic’s staunch and unwavering support of Turkey’s European Union membership. EU membership is Turkey’s strategic goal. We consider this a part of Turkey’s historical path towards further modernization and transformation.
Mr. Prime Minister,
Bilateral relations between our countries have never been better. Economic and trade relations are on the rise with record breaking figures despite the economic crisis and promise a bright future with great potential. Mutual investments are flourishing and we are pleased with the continued interest of Czech firms in Turkey. We were also honoured to be partner country in this year’s Brno Machinery and Engineering Fair. We will continue to focus on creating awareness between our peoples, businessmen and politicians.
With this in mind, we are looking forward to reciprocally establish cultural centers in our countries. The Turkish Government is moving forward with the establishment of a Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center in Prague. We perceive the existing Turkology Chair at Charles University as a key instrument to this end as well. I would also like to take this opportunity to announce that all procedures have been completed and we will be inaugurating the Turkish Honorary Consulate in Brno next month. This is a clear indication of the strong will of the Turkish Government to further improve bilateral relations with the Czech Republic.
I would also like to bring to your attention that next year will mark the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. Lots have changed over the past 90 years, but the one thing that has remained is the strong bond and friendship between our nations.
Last but not least, I would also like to mention the Turkish community in the Czech Republic. We have around 2.000 Turkish citizens living in and contributing to this beautiful country. They constitute an important link between Turkey and their new home the Czech Republic.
Once again thank you all very much for your participation tonight. We are deeply honoured by your presence, and feel very privileged to count you among our friends.
