Remarks by Ambassador H.E. Mr. Ahmet Necati Bigalı on the occasion of 91st Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Turkey
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a great honour and privilege to welcome you all to this reception held on the occasion of the 91st Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Turkey.
I would first of all like to convey to you all the message of H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey regarding the Republic Day:
“I would like to congratulate the Republic Day of all our citizens living in this friendly country where they perform their duties; I pray to the Almighty that the 91st Anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey will conduce to the benefit of our country, our nation, and all friendly and brotherly countries.
I convey our peace and solidarity messages to representatives of all friendly and brotherly countries, on their behalf to all friendly and brotherly peoples who share our enthusiasm on the 91st Anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey; and to all the personnel of our mission, and extend the wholehearted greetings of our nation.
The Republic of Turkey has a foreign policy understanding, which defends peace, solidarity, justice and prosperity in the world; respects internal affairs and territorial integrity of each and every country, and upholds human rights and freedoms above everything else.
These values we have carefully preserved and safeguarded for 91 years will remain to be the unshakeable fundamental principles of Turkish foreign policy in the future, as is the case today. Turkey will never hesitate to support justice, righteousness and peace, and will continue to courageously defend the rights of the oppressed and victimized in every single issue.
With its steadily growing economy, its democracy reaching higher standards, its resolute European Union strategy, its membership to the G-20, and its active policies in international platforms, Turkey will never abstain from mobilizing its wide experience for the sake of regional and global peace and the benefit of humanity.
With these thoughts, I congratulate once again the Republic Day of all of our citizens, brothers and sisters, and our relatives living there.
On this meaningful day, on behalf of my country and my nation, I would like to convey my gratitude to friendly and brotherly countries, their people and representatives who share our excitement and sentiments, and I would like to send my deep feelings of affection and greetings.
Please allow me to also say a few words on this very important day.
Ever since the establishment of our diplomatic relations in 1924, our relationship with the Czech Republic, an allied country within NATO, our partner in the EU and numerous other European institutions and with which we share universal values with has always been friendly. The Czech Republic as a member of the European family, and Turkey as a major player in its region both strive for peace, prosperity and well-being at the regional and global scale.
I would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for the Czech Republic’s staunch and unwavering support of Turkey’s European Union membership. EU membership is Turkey’s strategic goal. We consider this a part of Turkey’s historical path towards further modernization and transformation.
We, in Turkey, regard the Czech Republic among our true friends and a valued and reliable partner and ally.
Bilateral relations between our countries have never been better. Economic and trade relations are on the rise and promise a bright future with great potential. Mutual investments are flourishing and we are pleased with the continued interest of Czech firms in Turkey. Our trade volume is for the first time in our history nearing 4 billion US Dollars, although this volume is in favour of Czech Republic.
I would also like to bring to your attention that this year marks the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. During the past 90 years many things have changed and a new world order has been established, however, the one thing that has remained constant is the strong bond and friendship between our nations.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to reiterate that Turkey has the political will and determination to further enhance dialogue and cooperation with the Czech Republic in every possible field and that we are ready to take the necessary steps to this end.
Once again thank you all very much for your participation tonight. We are deeply honoured by your presence, and feel very privileged to count you among our friends.
